Hello my name is Lesley,
I am Richard’s best female friend who Richard has asked to help him reduce his bicycle collection by making contact with like minded people.
Richards’s collection spans right across the bicycle spectrum, from 1870 velocipedes, ordinary’s, autocycles, monkey bikes, trade bikes kids bikes, loads of Raleigh Superbes and Choppers, WW2 parachute bikes, fold-up bikes, right up to the very latest carbon road bikes,(and although I have not seen it I have the feeling there is an unopened box with a 2023 Chopper somewhere), Basically there could be a total of seven or eight hundred bicycles in two large facilities.
My brief is simple, Firstly to accept Richard’s admission that he has paid too much for many of the bicycles, and that bicycle collectors generally have over inflated ideas of what their bicycles are worth, and to sell his collection, not keep them. Secondly, the sad bit, at 77 years old, time is running out, they, the collection, will all have to go sooner than later.
With the facility on touch screen devices these days, you can expand the photos to see more detail.
I am sorry that because of the massive work load I have to get everything logged, (there are other collections of Richard’s as well), I cannot enter into correspondence about each bicycle at this stage, but please register your interest, and you will not miss out when these bicycles go on sale.
I feel if we can bypass the normal selling platforms, and specialist auctions, then, both buyer and seller will get a better deal. Richard would really like his bicycles to go to like minded people.
I have been given a freehand to dispose of the unrestored lessor bicycles first which will take me some time to add these to extra pages of this website, these are mostly bicycles made here in Nottingham by Raleigh, around the 60’s period. Richard loved bicycles where he could imagine the owner of the bicycle, and was obsessed by what the bicycle would tell if it could talk.
With the big problem being, that everything will have to be collected from one of the two addresses in Nottingham by appointment.. As nothing can be boxed, non of the established couriers can help deliver unboxed bicycles, Possibly hopefully, someone may come forward who can offer a low cost bespoke courier service.
It is a relatively simple task to photograph some of Richard better bikes in situ and put them on this website, it is more difficult to get it down from where it is situated and work out a selling price and decide to part with it, so if you like any bicycle on the website, just drop me an e-mail and you can have first refusal when the time comes.
